Implementing Farm to School initiatives in Portage County Schools enhancing education and health
Our Mission
The mission of Let’s Grow Together Coalition, Inc. (LGTC) is to produce healthier communities by uniting educators, civic leaders, and members of their communities to educate, motivate and engage children in activities that promote healthier living and greater sustainability.
Specific activities to further these purposes include, among other things, designing and implementing programs at local elementary schools for children, providing hands-on learning experiences creating and maintaining gardens, recycling, eating healthier, and reducing waste in their daily lives. In order to support these activities, LGTC also will raise funds, recruit volunteers, contact schools and others in communities around Ohio to collaborate in these efforts, and any other activities necessary to meet the mission.
Our Team
Our amazing team of volunteers includes students, teachers, and professionals from the local community. We all have diverse backgrounds but one common interest, working towards the improvement and growth of Let's Grow Together!
COMMUNITY GARDENS
Our community gardens are located at Walls elementary school, Franklin Ave near the Haymaker Farmers Market, Davey elementary school, and Kent Social Services. The gardens contain raised beds that are planted full of vegetables, flowers and so much more each spring and Fall.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Let's Grow Together works with Elementary School teachers to teach students the importance of healthy eating, where food comes from, and how to start their own gardens. Let's Grow Together offers a Garden Club for students to participate in educational programming.
